I Would Like To Be A Director Of My Own Screenplays, But How So?

I would like to a film director (example: George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan) and someday I would want to direct films that I have written. I have already thought out of what university I will be going to and it is USC, which I am already in a good position to get in. I have been looking at some directors' work on IMDB and Wiki. I see that most of them directed movies that they have written themselves. I would like to do the same if I haven't made that clear already. But I am struggling to find what degrees these men have earned. I'm thinking that they may have received their BFA degree in Writing for Screen and then received their MFA in Film and Television Production. On the other hand they could have received their BFA and MFA in Film and Television Production. It must be either one of these.
