How long does it take for a kidney to heal?

So, my best friend Tiff is getting her kidney out and I'm really worried. >_< There's lots of tests coming up, and everything. And, I'm just wondering: How long will it take for her to go back to school and stuff? Just overall, I know some people are different, but yeah. And, how long will her surgery take? I think she has a kidney infection.
