Does the Jobcentre call your previous employer to check why you left?

Yes they do contact your former employer, just because their rules say that they won't give you any benefits if you left your job voluntarily without good reason, and so anyone could just make up anything about abuse or whatever! So they have to check up on it - I had this happen to me before, so although there weren't any big problems or anything they still had to write to my old boss and wiat for them to confirm what I'd said before they accepted that I had to leave. The point is that if you are out of work by choice you shouldn't get benefits, which is fair. So you should explain the situation to your boss first, put the whole thing in writing (keep a copy) and say why you think they gave you the job under false pretences and why you can't carry on working there. Then, when you tell the jobcentre your reasons you can say that you told your employers why, show them the letter you wrote and then your employers won't be able to say 'they left for no reason'. Do keep in mind that there has to be an actual reason why you can't carry on with the job - if you just say that they misled you then jobcentre will always ask 'why does that mean you can't do the job?' There has to be a very good reason why you had to leave.
